Rules

Fishing permit

In order to fish in the river Lagan, a fishing permit is required.
Fishing permits can be purchased at Laholms Sportfiske and at the Tourist Information office and other locations.
More places can be found here.
Lost fishing permits will not be replaced!

Fishing seasons

Season commences: March 1 (regardless of ice conditions)
European flounder: March 8 – December 31
Salmon, sea trout, and others: March 1 – October 14

September 1-30: Fishing only 6 am to 8 pm
October 1-14: Fishing only 6 am to 6 pm
March 1–7 andOctober 1–14: Only fishing allowed for those with a valid season permit!

How to fish

Only one rod per person.
Only one lure/bait per rod is allowed.
Handheld gear only.
Use lead-free lures and sinkers. Think of the environment!

Prohibited fishing techniques

a) Snagging is prohibited by Swedish law.
b) Fish that are deliberately or accidentally foul-hooked—hooked anywhere other than the mouth or throat—must be unhooked with the utmost care and released immediately.
The fish must not be lifted out of the water during this procedure.
c) Upstream casting is not permitted.
d) From 1–14 October, only single-hook fishing is permitted.
e) The maximum permitted hook size is 12 mm from hook point to shank.

Violations of the applicable rules may result in withdrawal of fishing rights.

Fishing by boat

Trolling permitted only between the outlet of the river Smedjeån and the island just upstream Lagaoset (the estuary). Fishing by/from boat not permitted in March, or from September 15 to October 14.

Spin fishing

Spin fishing is defined as fishing with a casting or spinning rod and a baitcasting or spinning reel.
Permitted forms of bait include spoon, spinner, wobbler, fly, jig and angling with baited hooks.
All other types of bait are prohibited..

Fly fishing

Fly fishing is defined as fishing with a flyrod, a flyline, leader, and fly.
Exercise caution when wading, as water levels can rise unexpectedly.

Fishing areas

Fishing is permitted from the sign approximately 250 m downstream of the power station in Laholm to the sea, a distance of about 8 km. October 1-14, fishing is only allowed in the upper region, including the west point of Ösarp’s island (does not include European flounder).

Fly fishing: At Jise’s pool, Per Karl’s Hall, Bryggan (close to sewage treatment plant) and Svinaholmen (Ösarp) within sign-posted area. Apply rotation fishing when fishing pressure is high!

Spin fishing: Gröningen, Halmstadhålan och Kraftledningen (close to sewage treatment plant) within sign-posted area.

European flounder only between Daggan and the sea, and only bottom fishing. Special fishing licence required for Smedjeån.

Quantity of catch

A maximum of three salmon-like fish per day allowed. Caught fish may be kept. Spawned-out salmon and sea trout must be returned. Salmon with an intact adipose fin are recommended to be released back into the wild.

Catch reports: Caught salmon and sea trout must be measured, weighed and reported at the latest the day after the catch. 
Registering is mandatory! Reporting can be done on our website or at Laxahuset at Gröningen.

A season permit will be awarded through a raffle, to one person who’s registered their catch.

Minimum size

The minimum approved size of caught fish, from nose to tail fin is:
Salmon: 45 cm
Sea trout: 45 cm
European flounder: 20 cm
Other fish species according to current regulations.

Supervision

Anglers must wear their fishing permit visibly in a plastic holder on the arm. It is absolutely necessary to follow directions given by the supervisor. Anglers who violate current regulations or who act in a disruptive manner towards anglers or others will be banned from further fishing. It is a prerequisite that you show respect toward the environment, your surroundings and the animal life therein. Discarded equipment, lines and hooks, are an unnecessary hazard. Please ensure that you throw all waste, food, paper etc. into the bins.

Angler must be able to identify themselves with a valid ID, if asked to by supervisor.

”Marking’ or reserving fishing spots is not permitted.

Laholm’s King-/Queen of Salmon

The person who catches the largest salmon during the season is crowned Laholm’s King/Queen of Salmon. 
The catch must be verified and weighed on the scale at Laxahuset.
Prize: A seasonal fishing licence and a diploma.

Change of regulations

Changes or amendments to the rules may occur during the fishing season. These will be posted at Laxahuset and on our website. It is up to every angler to keep him/herself aware of these. Breach of the rules can result in withdrawal of the right to fish.
